Sudden thoughts and second thoughts...

Blogging from the bar needs to happen more often. It's helpful to be in the right environment to remember what was so interesting about...oops, lost my train of thought, maybe blogging from the bar isn't such a good idea after all...please excuse me as I catch-up on the past few weeks. I am going to try to keep this blog more up to date, but it's hard when we are having so much fun!

Wednesday January 26 - Snow day!
What a mess! It took me three hours to get to a training for work in the morning, then I had to work ALL DAY! I finally got home, and, like you do, made "banging-a**" muffins for the bar. I got there around 7:00, but was WAY behind, as many friends started at 4:00! Good grief, but very fun, I love laughing with drunk people. There was talk of naked snow angels, or skinny-dipping in the creek, but the consensus was "NO!!!" Later we had a dance party, and E showed me how to "Bop", which caused B to say "You B*tch!" (I think she was jealous of my sweet groove, LOL, but no hard feelings:) A and I tortured the bartender with Q102-style dance hits, but it was worth it to see C sing along to "Take it off!" Also, a sspecial thanks to D for help with The Stinger.

At some point late in the snowy evening a lone car sat on Garrett Road. You might think that it would have stayed there... WRONG! With the help of a dozen people, the car went around the block. But then a caring voice rang-out in the night "You don't want to get a D.U.I.!!!" so everybody walked home. There may have been snow angels after all;-)

Saturday January 29 - Field Trip!
Well, maybe not the most successful field trip, but live and learn, and we all had fun anyway. It started at 2312, then we road in style (in the Range Rover) downtown to Cherry Street Tavern. It was small, dead, and inexpensive, and I'm sure to some people it is as happy and comfortable as our bar. And hey, they had peperoni with Ritz crackers and American cheese, and really good horseradish. And we moved on to ---> the Piano Bar, which was closed. We passed Mission Grill <---- , and since the Piano bar was closed, we headed back there. They had a special kind of gin made with sunflowers which many of us tried, but then the meat-heads came in, so we began to formulate a Plan B. Plan B constituted going dancing at Woody's, but we couldn't get it to stick, so on to Plan C, and we lost half our party. The cool kids moved on to ----> Nodding Head, which was too crowned, so back downstairs to, um, hmm, I forget the name of that place, but apparently the only food they serve is hot dogs. and the beer comes in very big glasses! Our last stop before home was ----> "the black hole" aka The Happy Rooster, which is a great place. Now, when I say "home" I do, of coarse, refer to our bar. Yay! Things get a bit blurry after that, but a good time was had by all, I'm sure;-)

Thursday February 3 - Just one or two...
"Sure, just a couple of beers, and we'll leave by 11 o'clock" are famous last words around our bar. Show me someone who can just stay for two beers, and I'll show you someone who is NOT having a good time. This evening was highlighted be deeper conversation, discussions about cultural perceptions, race, age, gender, and blue hair. And a new word was coined , "Intelectuality". Think sexy-smart, we're still working on the definition.

WHEW! Man, I gotta keep up with this blog better...

Friday February 4 - City Tap House (If you go, check-out restaurant.com for discounted gift cert.'s)
A quiet evening, just the three of us, chillin' in University City.  They have a great beer selection (60 taps!) and possibly the best sweet potato fries I have ever had. I'm looking forward to going back at the end of the month for the Folk Fest reunion. After dinner we headed back to our bar, which was pretty happening as it usually is on Fridays. Surprise! A was back, with friends, new peeps who grew to luvrbar as the night progressed. The more the merrier, I always say! We had a great time, and great music, thanks to unknown Lady Gaga fans and  C (But I forget the name of that song, again!)

Sunday February 6 - Super Bowl!
Uh-oh Scotty Karatti:-/ Scotty is a beer. I'm not sure what kind of beer, other then tasty, and strong. D is a great bartender, and I don't think my glass ever went empty whilst I enjoyed great company and (sort-of) watched the super bowl. O came down for a visit and enjoyed La Fin Du Monde, which is not as good as La Petite Mort, but pretty close;-)

That's it! You are officially caught up on the bar news and gossip. Thanks for hanging in there! Stay tuned for this weekends Sexy Beast update! (To be tapped Saturday February 12 at 8pm)

I luv Mondays (at r bar!)

Memories from the Craft Beer Express

Well, last night probably sshouldn't have happened, but it felt as though we hadn't seen each other in weeks!

Friday - WTF, everybody stayed home!?! Oh well, distance makes the heart grow fonder, and all that. (Plus, I made a mean chipotle mac & cheese:)
Saturday - A day of adventure  for P's b-day. A field trip to bowling (how is it that we don't have any pictures from that?) Then bar hopping in Media. Food and beer at Quotations were excellent, I went to Joclyn's for the first time and had my first Jagar-bomb, and then a cocktail at Stephen's. Then, back to our bar! (Yay!) We all had a reeeeeealy good time. (Ouch!)
Sunday - Apparently I missed V's grilled cheese-gasm on Sunday night, but that's o.k., because on...
Monday - I went to Fogo de Chao! Which, btw, was really good, and I would recommend it to groups of very hungry people, but it couldn't top Amada. Then back to our bar, where the troops were gathered for an informal Philly Brew Company beer tasting. And they locked me out! Really!?! ME!?! Jeez, the nerve of some people (D, I'm looking at you!)

We have a great group: networking, supporting each other, sharing favorite tunes,oh, and watching C and V get drunk, LOL.

It's 11pm, do you know where your mother is???

So, it was Friday (1/14/11), and the bar was packed. The jukebox was loud, with an unusual variety of music, sort of like a school dance, if you went to school in the 80's.

P had a brilliant suggestion for picking up chicks by the juke box... just play dumb; people like helping other people, sharing their musical interests, etc. It works. ;)

The music progressed to top 40/old-school mix, and surprisingly, EVERYBODY ended up dancing, B, H and P included. It was quite a workout, and we all outdid ourselves, so FUN!

Special thanks to the Mother's Club! We're glad you chose our bar, and hope to see you all again soon!

What do you think, D.J. at our bar? Juke box dance party night? Who want's more dancing???

Saturday, January 8, 2011. FIELD TRIP!

2312 ---> Resurrection Ale House ---> Graces Tavern ---> Doobies Bar

2312
First things first, I chugged a Mad Elf. (The ILUVRBAR crew does NOT recommend chugging Mad Elf, or any other beer for that manor. We are much more sophisticated then that, and drink good beers worth savoring. That said, the cab came early and I couldn't WASTE Mad Elf! I was fine, but really, do not try this at home!)
Resurrection Ale House
C- "Lambs are a$$holes." V - "and lima beams, lima beans are a$$holes, too." At the time, it was hysterical! Maybe you had to be there...
Never the less, the lamb burgers were awesome, as were the pickled grapes, which I have to make myself one day.
Grace's Bar
What was that shot called again...The Lush Kitteh...The Tantalizing Tiger? No, that's not quite right...
So a random girl at Graces introduced P to this new shot, which she thought everybody should try, at least once. I happen to agree, and so does E.
Try it yourself: Peach schnapps, Bailey's Irish Cream, and a splash of pineapple juice
Doobies
2312 V.I.P. meeting held. The bartender was hardcore, but I made him smile, and my drinks came a lot faster after that. Unfortunately the waiter... bleck.

----> Home again, home again, with P, J, P and C dog-piled in the back of a cab. Good Times!

Distance makes the heart grow fonder...

A top shelf margarita martini served by a good friend and homemade enchiladas, served to a good friend.

Life is good.

Though iluvrbar, sometimes to much of a good thing is too much. To that end, I spent the night at home. Which isn't such a bad place, really. I should probably spend more time here...nah! Weekend, here I come!

;)

Halloween 2010 and more

For those of you that missed it, or were there and want to reminisce about it, here are a few special moments...

Well, flicker, blogspot and I need to have yet another meeting but in the meantime, I'm hoping this link helps if you haven't seen the whole set of photos:

"I'm sticky!"

Umm.. uh..well, that is to say... I have great friends that stick with me through some rather interesting times.

Last night visiting with the Mad Elf (a Troegs holiday beer, very high alcohol at 11%, smooth, not too heavy, ruby red and subtly 'cherry-ish") was extra special. Hanging out with a couple of long-term friends, A and O, plus many of my newer Lansdowne friends made for a great night:)

Highlights...

  • C and O got along swimmingly. By which I mean they were swimming in Mad Elf within minutes of arrival.
  • We did not win the 300+ Million dollar lottery on Tuesday :( That's o.k., we still have each other, and our bar :)
  • My awesome, shinny, black leather slouchy boots were a hit. B-"You look Hot!" and P-"Hun, the boots..." attest to that fact.
  • ILUVRBAR blog was announced, and everyone seemed to happy to have a place in it:)
  • A-"What's Amada?" C-"Nothing. What's amada with you?" Lol's ensued. For the record, Amada is one of my favorite restaurants, and restaurant week is coming...
  • Everyone is looking forward to H's triumphant return to our bar. Get well soon!
  • Plans for a field trip Saturday were discussed.
  • Italian songs were sung, by patrons young and old (specifically, the youngest and oldest guys in the bar), until A left due to an allergic reaction to cheesy music.  :P
  • Who knew that C has great nails?

That about sums it up, more posts coming soon with pictures from the last few months.

Great night all, can't wait until next time :D
